David began his musical training at age 4 singing brief solos with his very musical family at informal performances. Soon, he had begun piano and was a vocal soloist in various choirs. Trombone became the instrument of choice for quite a while and David became Drum Major of the High School marching band. During this time, he also organized his first a cappella group (the first of 3) and began a surprisingly aggressive touring schedule for high schoolers. In college, David sang with choirs and glee clubs, directed ensembles and began his training in theatre. As a theatre major, David specialized in Stage Combat (violent illusion for stage and screen) while also continuing his musical efforts.
After graduating, David began a 20 year career as a Fight Director that took him to the very heights of that industry, traveling the world and working with Academy Award winning stars at world famous theatres and training programs. But always, there was music calling to him. David wrote original scores for plays, served as music director for countless productions, and performed as an actor in numerous musicals and productions.
In 1998, David began working on a solo recording project to archive a body of music that he had written. The process of recording this album brought together a group of musicians that eventually coalesced into the early Coyote Run. David has spent his life pursuing two halves of the same whole. While music is a passion for David, it is not merely music. It is the dramatic story told by the song that drives him and defines his art. If, as is said in Chinese philosophy, our life is our art, then David is fortunate indeed, for his art is his life.
